NYC has newly Revised Buildings Code for Exit Signs, Stairwells, Pathways

Building Owners / Managers must conform to new building safety codes in the city of New York. Proposed legislation to change building codes for high rise office buildings in NYC will be in force on July 1, 2006.

Existing high rise office buildings will require the following:

1. All exit signs must have generator or battery backup power by 01/07

2. Stairwells and exit doors must be marked with photoluminescent paint or tape.

3. Stairwells with a horizontal path shall have exit signs indicating the transition from vertical to horizontal. 4. Recessed reentry doors shall be marked. Signs inside the stairwell shall indicate the floor number of each floor and the nearest reentry floor.
